Well, that's been a few months that most of us will be very happy to forget! But it makes the next sentence even sweeter: Our doors will be open from Saturday 4th July at 12 midday... BUT, and it is quite a big one, we will be drinks only until Wednesday 8th July when the kitchen and our fab, new menu will start.
We want you (it's essential) to feel relaxed about coming to the Alford, we want you to feel safe and we definitely want you to have a very good time, so we have a full Covid-19 Risk Assessment and you are very welcome to read the overview by clicking ...HERE.
We think we have done a rather good job(!) Let us know what you think.
Frithsden! Where the heck is Frithsden?
Find Frithsden and you'll find the award-winning Alford Arms: a pubby gem nestling in its secluded wooded valley. The great Ashridge forest lies brooding on its doorstep and the broad sweep of the Chiltern Hills is its backdrop. Ramblers drop wearily out of the woods and swear they have chanced upon Brigadoon while locals and regulars swap a knowing glance.
Find The Alford Arms and you'll never utter the term 'gastro-pub' ever again.
Inside has had a complete refresh following a recent fire, but it retains its pub atmosphere with antique artwork to set the mood. Wooden tables and chairs gleaned from nearby auctions add the tone and an open fire stands ready.
Push past the merry throng frothing at the bar and the elegant freshness of the dining room is revealed. The ying and yang of the modern, essential pub: downhome cheer in the front and refined dining in the back. It's best to book of course, but if you haven't there's rarely a chance of you leaving hungry - the Alford's jolly crew would scarce allow it.
Nab a table in the front parlour or on the terrace when the Great British Summer is in full swing and enjoy the same sense of wellbeing as the fine-diners in their reserved seats. In need of a working lunch - no problem! Your mobile may not have a signal but free wifi will provide a soothing umbilical to the world outside.
Find the Alford and you'll find the seemingly impossible: Bibulous bonhommie and Great British food all served up with a calm, friendly efficiency.
Find it and be content.
